Bed Bugs – Part 1

WHAT IS A BEDBUG? A bedbug is a parasite that lives off the blood of mammals. They get nutrients and oxygen from our blood. Your home or business can quickly become infested with these pests because they sometimes go undetected for a long time and reproduce very quickly. If you have an infestation, often you can smell a musky, sweet smell. They do not carry disease but you still won’t want them in your home.

WHAT DO BEDBUGS LOOK LIKE? Bedbugs are small, six legged bugs that are a light brown color and have no wings. Their size and color make them look like apple seeds. After they’ve taken a blood meal they swell up and have a reddish color to them.

HOW DO I GET RID OF BEDBUGS? If you think you have bedbugs, please do yourself a favor and call an exterminator. They are one of the hardest pests to eliminate. There are several techniques that can be used to get rid of them, best handled by a professional. You can do a test to see if you have bedbugs. Get up during the night without the lights on. With a flashlight handy, pull the sheets back and see if there are tiny black bugs scattering around.
